As a rookie, young French point guard Tony Parker has already become the starting
point guard of the San Antonio Spurs. Poised beyond his years, Parker possesses the talent
to be a quality point guard in the NBA for many years. He has excellent speed and quickness, and the ambidextrous ballhandling skills and crossover dribble to consistently get into the paint. Currently, Parker lacks the physical strength to take the ball all the way to the rack, insead preferring to put up running floaters. When teams dare him to shoot from the perimeter, Parker knocks down three-point bombs with
a nice, smooth shooting stroke. However, Parker's shot is a set shot, so he needs a lot of room
to get it off accurately. On the Spurs, this is not a problem since defenses generally collapse
on San Antonio big men Tim Duncan and David Robinson, freeing Parker to spot up beyond the arc. Plus, his ability to put the ball on the floor, even against quick defenders, forces teams to
play him for the drive. Defensively, Parker shows the potential to become a top level defender once he adds upper body strength. He certainly has the quickness to stay in front of even the quickest point guards. As a floor leader, Parker is more of a shooting point than a creative pure point guard, but his court savvy to develop into a solid quarterback. His ability
to drive and dish already puts a lot of pressure on defenses.
